OBAYUWANA Augustine Uyi

Augustine Uyi Obayuwana is a Nigerian sculptor celebrated for transforming discarded scrap metal into striking contemporary works of art. Born in Benin City, Edo State, he studied Sculpture at Auchi Polytechnic, where he earned both a National Diploma in Painting & General Arts (2005) and a Higher National Diploma in Sculpture (2009).

Working full-time from his OGIEGUN Studio in Ikorodu, Lagos, Augustine has developed a distinctive practice that reimagines recycled materials into monumental forms. His innovative approach has earned him recognition through exhibitions across Nigeria and internationally, including Spain, Pakistan, and Qatar.

A member of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Augustine has participated in prestigious shows such as the 7th Qatar International Art Festival (2025), IT'SLIQUID Contemporary in Barcelona (2025), and Audacity of Creativity II in Abuja (2024). His works have also been featured in multiple editions of OCTOBER Rain across Lagos galleries.

His artistry has been honored with multiple awards, including the Award of Excellence (Best Sculptor of the Year) at Nike Art Gallery Abuja in both 2023 and 2024, and a Participant Award at QIAF 2025.

Among his notable works are Olori (2026), a commanding sculpture crafted from nuts and metal sheets, and My Village Chief (2026), which embodies cultural heritage through industrial materials.

Through his practice, Augustine continues to push the boundaries of recycled art, merging tradition with innovation to create works that resonate locally and globally.
