"EXPO" TO WRITE COMMON ENTRANCE EXAMS

Posted by: Benjamin Onuorah

A few days ago, I shared a screenshot of children who make use of expo to write common entrance exams.

I haven't been able to recover from the shock that accompanied that screenshot.
It wasn’t just the image that disturbed me, it was the silent cry behind it. These are children, barely out of childhood, already being trained to cheat their way into the next phase of their lives. And while it’s easy to point fingers at the system, the teachers, or even the parents, there’s something deeper going on.

One of the major reasons why children resort to expo is because they don’t truly understand the subject of study. They’re memorizing to pass, not learning to know. And when you don't know, panic sets in. That panic drives them to look for shortcuts. Shortcuts that may give them a score today but will cost them character tomorrow.

Education is no longer just about passing exams. It's about equipping minds, shaping values, and laying the foundation for future leaders. If a child learns to cheat at ten, what will they be capable of at twenty?

We must return to the roots, where understanding is the goal, not just promotion; where learning is a journey, not a race; and where children are taught not only what to know, but how to think.

We must return to the roots, where understanding is the goal, not just promotion; where learning is a journey, not a race; and where children are taught not only what to know, but how to think.

Because at the end of the day, the greatest tragedy isn’t that a child used expo, it’s that somewhere along the line, we failed to make learning meaningful enough to be worth doing honestly.

If we want to raise a generation that values integrity, we must first create an environment where learning feels possible, purposeful, and personal. The work starts with us; parents, teachers, mentors; building trust, inspiring curiosity, and teaching truth.

Let’s not just raise children who can pass exams. Let’s raise children who can pass through life with wisdom, strength, and honour.

Do You Understand???
