"There should be no such thing as boring mathematics..." Edsger W. Dijkstra

The way Maths could be taught.
__"There should be no such thing as boring mathematics..." Edsger W. Dijkstra

The old colonial education system was designed to develop colonial Administrators and placed a lot of emphasis on language skills. The better someone spoke English, French, or Portuguese, the more "educated" he or she was considered to be. Mathematics was taught as something abstract and only studied by those few seen as particularly "gifted."

Another problem was this notion that some people were "good" at arts-type subjects and some were "good" at the more technical subjects. This too is false and has done more harm than good. Any child can learn Maths if the incentives and teaching methods are radically transformed. [Along with #Transforming the #Mindsets of students, parents, teachers, etc.!]

Now imagine if at high school you had been told that the one subject which would help you the most was Maths, and they taught not only mathematical concepts but showed you that the wealthiest entrepreneurs in the world are people who love numbers.

Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jack Ma, Jeff Bezos, Aliko Dangote... they all have a grasp of #NUMBERS. Now imagine that you had also been told that every human being can actually do Maths, because your brain uses Maths in its reasoning processes. There is nobody who cannot do Maths!

Even if you are an adult who did no Maths whatsoever in school, there are now all sorts of online lessons. Some of them use games [which you can download]. Some are designed to teach you the most sophisticated Maths, and others focus on “Business Maths”!

Sure, you may not be headed to solve the more abstract mathematical problems of the Universe or put a rocket in space, but for the kind of Maths that Warren Buffett uses... that knowledge you can master in 18 months, if you have a high school diploma. I’m serious!

__Remember my motto on this platform: We learn to do!

Go today on YouTube and search for Maths courses using platforms like TeaLearn, Khan Academy or Coursera and others. There are so many, it’s amazing! I also want you to take up Chess! If you don't know why I say so, trust me on this one.

My friends, no one ever became a billionaire [unless they stole the money!] who did not have a grasp of business finance or could not understand an income statement or use a balance sheet! If you really needed an incentive, now you have one.

You can start at any age to get on top of the simple Maths used to put together Financial Statements, the most important tool in business management. No excuses.

#ToughLove?

No... Reality!
